Animal, Vegetable, Miracle

I've just started reading this book. The author and her family moved to a farm and endeavored to eat only food "whose provenance we really knew." They grew their own or bought things that were locally produced. It should be interesting to read.

  1. I might have to track that one down...I'm working on converting our life to one where we eat local/organic/natural/unprocessed foods. It just feels healthier.

It's one of the 'perks' of Carter's allergy... I was interested before, but with PA, it's pushed me harder to make everything from scratch and do away with processed foods. They still sneak in from time to time...but not too often.

Have you ever used a grain mill? I'm thinking about getting one...someday... I'd love to grow and make my own flour!

  2. If you're interested in going that way, I think you'd really like this book.

I agree, dealing with a food allergy makes you think harder about processed foods and appreciate it when you really know where your food came from.

I have not used a grain mill, but my husband has the same idea! I've read about someone who does make their own flour that way. I wonder how that would be to bake with.

  3. I bet it'd make for some really good bread! All I know, is you have to add something to the grains when you're baking with your own milled flour... I don't know all the details yet, as I'm still learning...
